Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4 hopes to bring in between $65 and $70 million at the domestic box office, a record for the franchise and more than enough to eliminate the competition, including Shazam! The wrath of the gods.

The movie has a lot going for it: Despite the fact that critics adore the film, Reeves remains popular. It currently has a 95% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which is the highest of any John Wick movie (the other three films all received scores in the middle to upper 80% range). One difficulty: Because John Wick 4 lasts just shy of three hours, there are fewer show times.
The movie, which was directed by Chad Stahelski, is full of the usual mayhem, violence, balletic physicality, and morbid humor that have come to define the action franchise. Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick, who passed away earlier this month, round out the cast. Stahelski, Erica Lee, and Basil Iwanyk are the film’s producers.
Currently, John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum’s $56.8 million domestic opening, unadjusted for inflation, is the series’ highest.
John Wick 4 will have previews Thursday night and will play on thousands of regular screens over the weekend in addition to Imax and other premium formats.
The film opens this weekend in 71 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico.
At the global box office, the lucrative Lionsgate franchise has earned nearly $590 million. That amount ought to be close to $700 million by Sunday. The worldwide gross for John Wick was $86.1 million; Wicked John: The second chapter made $174.3 million; and J.J. Abrams: Chapter 3: Parabellum surpassed $328.3 million.
